Thaddeus and Effie are Toulouse Geese, a French breed, that are described as "gentle giants." They are rather larger geese and can be loud when provoked by the dogs or a visitor comes to the farm. Along with the dogs, there is no need for a doorbell, you always know when anything or anybody enters the property!!
The geese with Cooper, our Great Pyrenees dog, are very effective varmint deterrents. Effie will lay approximately 30-40 eggs in the Spring. These eggs are huge and delicious - we make custards, quiches and other egg-based dishes with them. The eggs are about the size of three (3) large hen eggs.
Thaddeus and Effie are about a year and half old. They free-range on the property usually following us around. Geese are not known to be cuddly, and these are no exception. However, they do like to hang out close to where you are when you are outside. We would love to rehome Thaddeus and Effie to another farm that has room for them to roam around and munch on the grass and clover. They would like for their new owners to also have a lake, pond or creek on the property!! Contact us if you are interested. Share if you will, someone you know might know someone that knows someone that would love to provide a new home for Thaddeus and Effie.
