The evolution of WCCF
This has been a six-year project to customize this property to our lifestyle. We moved here in 2019 with 4 horses, 4 dogs, and a cat. The house was about twenty years old and needed renovation. The property was not fenced, there were no pastures (it was and still is heavily wooded), and there was no barn. However, despite these issues, we found the property:
-
was bounded by a pristine mountain stream (Walnut Cove Creek) originating out of the National Forest a few hundred yards north of the property line.
-
had sixteen (16) acres contiguous to over 700,000 acres of the Chattahoochee - Oconee National Forests.
-
had enough elevation to moderate the warm summers by several degrees, the homesite is at approximately 2000 feet msl.
-
had enough elevation to showcase all four seasons, including a few inches of snow each year.
-
had long distance views of the surrounding mountains.
-
was easily accessible to Dahlonega, Georgia - a fantastic small town that is often highlighted in travel magazines and Southern Living publications.
-
at the end of an idyllic valley framed by the Appalachian Trail, which is accessible from our property by a 1.5-mile hike through the National Forest.
-
had room for trails, for gardens, and small grassy meadows.
-
was rural and plenty of room for our dogs and horses to roam.
-
was close enough to Atlanta and the airport.
-
was close to wineries, hiking trails, restaurants, waterfalls and a great university.
-
and had many, many other features we are just beginning to learn.
We believed that we could maintain the tranquil nature and beauty of the property and enhance the experience of living in this corner of paradise - so we embarked on a makeover and improvement to this property that has kept all of the inherent beautiful qualities but made it functional for our lifestyle. We are substantially finished with the functional improvements and have made many stylistic and aesthetic changes to upgrade the appearance from a cabin in the woods to a villa in the forest! Read on to learn about why you will love WCCF!
